A Few Days Later...

“I don’t like the way they’re looking at her,” I muttered to Zian as he finished another round of pull-ups in the makeshift gym.

He dropped to his feet and wiped the sweat from his brow before folding his arms over his bare chest. “Neither do I.”

The three Valkyries stood off to the side watching Raven while she performed another round of bodyweight exercises on the mat. If she was aware of their scrutiny, she didn’t show it, her focus on completing the set Zian had instructed her to do. “At least she’s getting stronger.”

“And more fluid in her steps,” Zian agreed. “But those females have at least thirty years of experience on her. Except for the middle one. She’s closer to Raven’s age.”

“Yeah, I noticed that. I think those other two are her mentors.” Similar to what Zian and I were doing for Raven.

Some females went the warrior route when they refused to mate. The more powerful they were, the harder it was to be taken over by a male-driven society. They also banded together in colonies, giving them strength in numbers.

Only idiots tried to fuck them. Valkyries were notorious for taking lovers to suit their needs, then killing them afterward. It was why they tended to go for warriors, preferring a challenge both in the bed and outside of it.

Hence their noticeable interest in me and Zian.

Not a chance in hell would we agree to play. Oh, we’d indulged a few Valkyries in the past, mostly because they were animals in the sack and could handle more than the average Nora female. But the after-party sucked.

Zian and I watched as yet another imbecile tried his luck.

And failed.

Because only the worthiest of males would be chosen by a Valkyrie for mating.

I smirked. “They’ll never learn.”

“They’re desperate,” Zian replied. “Desperation often leads to stupidity.”

“Too true.” The Valkyries began to train again, but their focus continued to return to Raven. When they first arrived, I thought they might try to recruit her to strengthen their numbers. But they had disliked Raven from the beginning, calling her a breed—

A fist met my abdomen, the impact coming from a very pissed-off little dove. “You could at least give me a chance to prove my worth before considering an upgrade,” she snapped, her voice low and meant for us alone.

I shared a bewildered look with Zian before meeting her livid gaze. “What the hell are you talking about?”

“You’re openly ogling the fresh meat like I’m not even here,” she growled, the sound adorably ferocious. It made me want to pin her to the mattress and make her repeat it with my cock deep inside her. “You haven’t even tried to properly fuck me yet. Maybe I’ll surprise you. Who knows? But you won’t if you keep checking out the replacement crop.”

Zian’s eyebrows shot upward. “Checking out the replacement crop?”

My lips twitched. “Someone’s feeling possessive.”

“How could I possibly feel possessive?” she countered, fire dancing in her expression. “You’re not really mine, right? Just compatible and messing around.
